Where can I find a website that will give me a diagram on how to line up timing marks for a 99 jeep cherokee?

I'm changing the timing chain in 1999 jeep cherokee 4.7L. I need to find out were the timing marks are supposed to beWhere can I find a website that will give me a diagram on how to line up timing marks for a 99 jeep cherokee?i would go to the libary and use the refence book other wise alldata.com 15 bucks i think for one vehicalWhere can I find a website that will give me a diagram on how to line up timing marks for a 99 jeep cherokee?Go to any of the after market camshaft websites, such as Crane or Comp Cams. They have the instructions you need.

One point,,,you do not have a 4.7 unless you have a stroker.

The timing marks on the small gear should be straight up and the large gear, straight down.

Hint..set the original cam marks this way, pull the gears and reinstall. You said that you are only changing the chain. My two cents, you really should change the gears and chain. Not good to run new chain on old gears. The new chain will wear faster.

Good LuckWhere can I find a website that will give me a diagram on how to line up timing marks for a 99 jeep cherokee?Drag1in is correct. But he should have added that all engines with the cam inside have the cam gear and the crank gear installed as he told you.

  • 2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 1.8 hp (4 cyl): timing chain, or timing belt?

Does it have a timing BELT, or a timing CHAIN? How often does it have to be changed?

I bought the car with 10,000 miles on it. It now has 62,000 or so, and I was wondering about the timing chain/belt.

Next month I will have had this car for 4 years. Has not been in the shop even once. I do all minor maintenance (change oil faithfully every 3,500 miles, change air filter every 10,000, change transmission fluid %26amp; filter every 25,000, and change plugs every 25,000, rotate tires every 10,000 miles).

I know that this may sound excessive for the transmission filter/fluid, and spark plugs, but this is what I do to keep repair bills down. My wife drives this car; gets an average of 33 mph around town, and about (but not quite!) 43 mph on highway.

I'm still amazed that I have not had to take this car to the dealer or mechanic for ANYTHING since I bought it in July 2004.

Would appreciate any info about timing change/belt (how many miles before change} Thank you2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 1.8 hp (4 cyl): timing chain, or timing belt?Yours has a BELT...

You may call the dealer for the exact mileage... however, I believe those are recommended to be changed around 85-100k miles. Though I will say, our shop does not usually see issues with them until 150-200K miles.

    - Good Luck!2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 1.8 hp (4 cyl): timing chain, or timing belt?Toyota Corolla's from 1998-2010 have a timing CHAIN. See Toyota's FAQ on their website, under %26quot;Does My Vehicle Have a Timing Belt or Chain?%26quot;:

2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 1.8 hp (4 cyl): timing chain, or timing belt?TIming Chain. Change on engine rebuild.2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 1.8 hp (4 cyl): timing chain, or timing belt?It has a timing belt. I believe toyota recommends replacing it every 60,000 miles. So...yours is due.

But you're wasting oil by changing it every 3500 miles. The oil these days can go 5000 to 7500 miles before needing changing. Your dad probably told you to change it every 3500 miles but oil products have come a long way technologically since he was taught that buy your grandfather.

I worked on Toyots for 9 years. you're doing a fantastic job!! I wish others were like you. Toyotas are pretty indestructable. Oil changes are the most critical...but again, 3500 miles is a little too excessive.

Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?

Hey, i know next to nothing about cars, just got my first, a 1995 N reg Ford Fiesta, 1.25 and done 57k miles. Apparently the timing belt needs changing. I've scouted around a few mechanics and a few have even said it wont have a timing belt? Others have mentioned timing chain, and alternator belt? Whats the difference? And should i get it in and changed quick before it fu**s the whole engine up? And most importantly, how much should i be expecting to pay? so i know i'm not getting ripped off...(in the UK). Big cheers for help!!!Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?ok in order

a 12 year old timing belt may be weak even with the low milage you report. they do degrade with time.

i don't know if it has a belt or chain but its easy to find out. open the hood and look for a sheet metal or plastic belt guard on the front of the engine. [front in this case means the opposite end from the transmission, usually on the right in front wheel drive cars.] under that guard there should be a rubber timing belt belt with tranvsverse grooves in it. it will ride on a large pulley at the top and on the crankshaft at the bottom. a second check would be to open the oil filler cap and look for a camshaft. if you see one you have an overhead cam engine and almost every one made now uses a timing belt. chains are used mostly in single cam V-8 motors. the altenator belt is a single V belt than runs from the crankshaft pulley [ there are usually several stacked on the crank

] to the altenetor and maybe other things like water pump, power steering pump. if it fails the car may be undrivable but no damage usually occures. if you lose the timing belt and you have what is called an interference engine you will total the engine due to the pistons hitting the valves. on a non interference engine nothing will happen except the engine will stop running.

i would have it checked and if needed replace it. cost here in the states is on the order of $50 for parts and $100 labor in my area. it can be a DIY for anyone with some experence.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? So - is there anyway to know if the timing belt (or timing chain - they do basically the same thing) has been changed prior to now - and when? If not - I'd play it safe and replace it. I bought a for Escort years ago and the timing belt went out when I was driving it and it ended up doing a lot of engine damage and costing me a lot of money.

Sorry - I have no idea what it will cost you these days - but I know that it's cheaper than major engine work.

Good luck.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? That serpentine belt should be changed at or before 60k miles regardless of any inspection. That is what the normal operation for that part is. It is fancy rubber belt that 'snakes' around the front of the block. I had a 1980s Ford Truck with a Mazda Motor in it, that was weird to discover. I was not amazed when I discovered that Ford had the Tool to released the tensioner spring, made for Ford by Ford for Mazda.

I have no idea what motor is in that vehicle, but 60k is the average for Serpentine Belts, pulleys, gaskets, bushings, bearings. Basically a preventative rebuild to keep a car in running condition.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?Timing belt is most important and it is a good time to have it changed

Timing belt Vs Timing Chain: They do the same thing but Chain is made of metal like a chain on a bike, and belt is made of nylon (usually for small cars) About $ 70 US

*instalation is highly expensive, but a bad belt can ruin the entire engine

Alternator belt is a small rubber or nylon belt that turns the alternator(generates electricity for battery) usually about 1/2 an inch wide and cost about $15 US not sure in UK but its preaty cheap, the instalation is expensive though

*this one usually squeeqs when bad

I would recomend they check the timing belt to see if its worn

Alternator belt should be easy to change yourself if you want just ask the guy at the auto parts where it is located all you do is take one of and put the other , there is one screw and one tensionerDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?A timing belt should be changed every 60k miles, a timing chain should be changed probably around every 200k miles.Do i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?Bring it to the Ford dealership and expect to pay up to 400 for a timing belt/chain. they can at least roll the 80 dollar inspection in to the labor of what ever needs fixing. Drive safeDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine?well if it seems like ur car is lackin power or is makein a loud sqealing noise or slippin i wouldnt bother with it if its not doin any of themDo i need to change the timing belt on my 1995 ford fiesta? 57k miles, 1.25 engine? The easy way to tell if it needs changing is going up a steep hill, if you hear a rattling sound while accelerating up it needs a change. A timing belt is usually a chain similar to one on bycicles, its comes as a set from a parts shop, including all Gaskets. Its not a cheap procedure and its one of the most expensive repairs. Thats why people sell their cars before 100 000 kms.

    Chevy 305 timing chain help?

Then you don't need to change the timing chain.

They're considered a lifetime part. Unless it breaks (unusual) or you somehow manage to stretch the heck out of it (also unusual), you won't need to replace it.

If you need to replace it, there will be absolutely no question about whether you need to replace it. It won't run or the timing will be ridiculously bad.

How to install vortec timing chain. 5.7 1997 gmc 3500?

How do I know if my timing chain is installed correctly. The truck starts and drives but is slugish. I rebuilt the engine 2 years ago and has never been as good as new. I just took off the timing cover and here is what i see. With #1 piston at tdc and the dist rotor pointing to the 8 mark (#1 connector) I see my timing gears as so.

Crank gear dot is at 12 oclock position.

cam gear is at the 12 0clock position. (If this is incorrect would it even start?)

Any Ides, before i change the timing chain.

This is a 1997 GMC 1 ton crew cab 5.7 vortec. at breakin the vortrc seemed to run good. shortly after it ran doggish It passed Immissions and inspection with flyin colors. it runs and drives and has recently been giving a p1345 code and will now not pass immisions untill i get the code to go away. Whe n I rebuilt the engine I reused the double chain and gear set cause it looked more durable, but I now think that was a mistake. I have the new one and its going in this weekend. any experience with this is appreciated. How to install vortec timing chain. 5.7 1997 gmc 3500?I do agree they should be pointing at each other. But did you try turning the engine another revolution? but P1345 is for the CrankShaft position sensor. To fix a CSP after replacing it or setting timing on these trucks you need to connect it to a scanner. The timing is completely computer controlled.

Vortec Timing, 96 to 98. This is very common and after dealing with it a couple times on my own I felt I should add to this FAQ. Listed below is good for a v6 or v8, (just line your mark up to the 6, not the 8.) There are two processes to follow, I will list the more favorable A and alternate B:

    A:

First if you are doing a smaller job like intake gaskets etc, you want to mark the distributor. Mark the distributor housing to the intake with a grease pencil. Also mark where the rotor is pointing to on the base of the housing. I suggest doing this at TDC #1 compression stroke so that if you accidentally bump the motor over you can put it back. on tear down to find TDC turn the engine over manually until you line up the line on the balancer to the timing mark on the timing cover. Check the distributor and it should be pointing to a #8 in the housing of the distributor. you will note a 6 and an 8. The 6 is where it would have pointed if this was a 6 cylinder. If pointing to that little 8 then you are at TDC #1 compression, if it is pointing in the opposite direction you are at the top of the exhaust/intake stroke #1, not compression and you need to turn the crank a full 360 additional degrees.

on reassembly just make sure you are TDC compression and slide the distributor back in. If it doesn't sit flat on the intake try wiggling the rotor back and forth a bit to get the distributor gear to seat in the oil shaft. If this doesn't work you may need a long flat head screw driver to turn the shaft and properly align it.

    B:

If that doesn't work, or you forgot to make your mark or you did a full rebuild with new timing gears and need to get it set this is what you do. Find TDC #1 compression stroke. How do you find it? I found if you are alone the best is with a compression tester. you can turn it until you see it build pressure. I recommend you do this with all the spark plugs out, makes it a lot easier to turn over. If you have 3 hands or more available, you could have some turn the motor over while another puts a finger on the #1 spark plug hole and feel for pressure, once you feel pressure line the timing marks up. Being at TDC you can now move on. Get your distributor. Look on the lower part of the housing and you should see a white vertical line painted on it. Turn the distributor gear until the drilled hole lines up with the white line. look at the rotor and it should now point about at that #8. Stab the Distributor in with the wire harness connector facing towards the fire wall(more towards driver side). Once seated see if you can line of the rotor to the #8. If you can and can lock it down and put the cap on then you are good, if not you may need to re stab on a new tooth but the end result is you want the rotor pointing the the #8 on the housing. (now I am not talking about #8 cylinder, but in the distributor there is a 6 and 8, tiny but it is there.)

That should fire it up, if not then you messed something up and start over. You may need to pull your spark plugs and dry them (air compressor helps here) as I struggled with fouled plugs leading me to think I was wrong on the timing but wasn't.

Lastly once done with A or B, you should get a scan tool that will display the cam retard and you need to turn the distributor to set this to zero. How to install vortec timing chain. 5.7 1997 gmc 3500?The dots should point at each other crank 12 o'clock and cam 6 o'clock, no wonder it runs bad. You don't need to change the chain, just point the dots together. You really need to get yourself a Haines or Chiltons manual so you will not make another silly mistake. How to install vortec timing chain. 5.7 1997 gmc 3500?I believe the cam gear dot should be at 6 o'clock and the crank at 12 o'clock.

  • How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?

I have a 89 Chrysler Lebaron that I am going to change out the timing belt. I have changed many timing chains on 350 chevy's before, but this will be my first belt on a 4 cylinder. Are there line up notches or what? How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?Get a manual for this first thing. It will make it so much easier. This is not a close tolerance engine so no worries. I love doing these usually about two to three hours with no lift. When you get the timing belt cover off. You will see two lines on the cam gear. They are designed to line up to the flat part of the valve cover/ head. The crank gear is also marked it will line up easy. When you see you will understand. If the belt is not broken and just doing for maint. I would mark the belt and gears. Then count the teeth at the marks and put marks on the new belt. That way you know you have the right belt. It will have the same number of teeth. Line every thing up before you pull the old belt off. Mark the top of the cam. I usually use the small bottles of scrath repair paint. But finger nail polish will work. White or red is best. Mark one tooth on the cam and belt. Mark one tooth on the balancer shaft and belt. Do the same for the crank. Remove the old belt. Mark the top mark cam or c. Put a line in same spot on new belt make sure its a tooth. Cound the lines to the balancer shaft mark. Do the same to the new belt mark it. After you mark the crank line count the rest of the teeth to the cam. New belt will be the same or its wrong. I do this when the marks are hard to see or its a close tolerace engine. You cannot mess up with this process. The new belt will have all the marks just line it to the gears. You are done. Do not tightend the timing belt to much or it will whine. Sometimes the whine will go away when the belt stretches. If you have more questions let me know. How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?do yourself a favor and buy a manual for it and it will tell what marks to line upHow do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?its a pretty easy one as far as belts go you will ned to take the plastic covers off and unbolt the pasenger side motor mount fromt he chasis

take the crank pully off.. there willbe a mark.. usually a dot on it.. then on the intermediate gear that runs the distributer there willbe a mark also.. afterryou get those lined up take the distributer cap off and verify its pointing correctly

On the top end if its a N/A car there willbe a hole in the upper pully that will line up witht he rubber nub sticking up thru the valve cover line it up there

be sure you do not overtighten the belt they have a tendancy to break if overtightened

also rememebr to manually spin the engine twice to make sure the dots stay lined up and stays at lined up.. Its a non interference engine so there is no worry of accedental damageHow do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron? If I'm not mistaken that is a V-6 side winder in there, with double overhead cam? It's not an easy job, get a book on it at autozone for 12 bucks, you not only have to line up both cams, and the crank, the water pump is run off of it too, I used every trick I know and it was a bear, no room, no access, not enough hands, it's not like a chevy at all. The serpentine belt goes around it all and all the pulleys have splines on them. Good luck. How do I replace Timing Belt On Chrysler Lebaron?Yes, if it is a signle cam than it will be a notch on the pulley that lines up with the notch on the block, if it is dual than the notches on the cams line up with eatchother, dont forget to line up the notches on the oil pump and cranshaft also..

How much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump on a new Dodge Durango?

How much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump and on a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9 4 wd with 109k.miles? Should I change the timing chain? If you can please give me a estimated Thank You!

I getting tired of old Vechiles LOLHow much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump on a new Dodge Durango? The cheapo water pump from oreillys is $46, the higher end one is around $70. As far as labor, Mitchell OnDemand calls for 2 hours flag rate time to change it out. You'll probably be looking at at least 1 gallon of antifreeze as well for what will be lost changing it out, and I would recommend changing the thermostat when you change the water pump. The 5.9 uses a timing chain, which I wouldnt recommend replacing, seeing as the vehicle has that low of miles on it. I'm not sure how much labor costs in your area, but the shop I work at charges $75 per flag rate hour. So if we were to do it, taxes and everything it would be right around $250. If you live in a big city, you'll probably be expecting to pay around $100 a hour for labor at a reputable shop. Good luck and hope this helps. How much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump on a new Dodge Durango?I do not know where you live, your best bet would be to find a reputable garage in your area and get an estimate from them. Most will give you a rough idea of what you are looking at.

I would not go to a Dealership, you would have to get a loan for a dealer to do the same job.

A friend of mine that has a 2006 Ford F-150 was given a quote of $1200 to do a tune up from a Ford Dealer, I sent him to the garage that does the work on all of my vehicles, he did everything the Dealership was going to do and charged him $300. So, shop around and see what kind of price you can get, see if you can find anything out about the garage about what kind of work they do, will they stand behind there work or not.How much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump on a new Dodge Durango?it can cost alot($900 +) to have someone do it.i would recommend doing it yourself if you know a little about cars. you have to remove the fan shroud and the radiator to get to the water pump. it isnt very hard, but can take a while.

you probably dont need to replace the timing chain unless you can hear it or know its going bad, as long as you change your oil regularly then you should be good. How much would it be in labor and parts to change a water pump on a new Dodge Durango?i wouldn't change the timing chain and gears in it not unless its over 150 thousand,on the labor and parts for all that it only cost about 600 bucks to get all that done and that's with parts and labor, its not that expensive on a 5.9, good luck.

Does a 2001 Ford Sport Trac How Front & Rear Timing Chains?

Hi I have a 2001 Ford Sport Trac. I am told to change the timing chain you must change both front and back and it can be a 12+ Hour Job. I am trying to find a motor diagram and find out why it has front and back timing chains?

I am not a newer vehicle mechanic but it seems extremely odd to have both front and rear timing chains? Can someone help me out with a answer. Maybe a link to a motor diagram? ThanksDoes a 2001 Ford Sport Trac How Front %26amp; Rear Timing Chains? The rear timing chain (or %26quot;cassette%26quot; as it's called in Ford lingo) is the chain that drives bank #1 (passenger side) cam. The front timing chain drives bank #2 (driver side) cam. There is a also a primary %26quot;jackshaft%26quot; chain that is driven by the crankshaft in order to enable both banks to be driven through a common shaft. The reason for this peculiar layout is because this engine is a %26quot;derivative%26quot; of the 4.0L OHV V6 engine it replaces. Ford simply installed a dummy shaft in place of where the camshaft used to reside on the original OHV engines.

But above all else, the job you describe SHOULD NOT be carried out by anyone unfamiliar with this particular engine. There are NO timing marks on any of the drive sprockets, nor are they key to their corresponding shafts. To time this particular engine requires use of FIVE dedicated Ford/Rotunda tools that hold all relevant parts in proper position. Failing to carry this procedure out correctly, will result in the bending of ALL valves with 100% certainty!!! Therefore, it is best left to a Ford dealer technician to carry out. If you would like more information regarding diagrams, TSBs, and procedures with detailed illustrations, please e-mail me directly with your FULL Yahoo e-mail address so I can attach PDF files. Hope this helps.Does a 2001 Ford Sport Trac How Front %26amp; Rear Timing Chains? You're Welcome. I will get right to it.

Does a 2001 Ford Sport Trac How Front %26amp; Rear Timing Chains? If that's the 4.0 overhead cam then yes it has a front and back chain one to each head and a chain from crank to the shaft that both those drive from. It's a real winner. There have been service bulletins for updated parts and I'd make sure it gets all the newer parts in hopes it might stay together for a while.

That does you no good when the cam shaft seal goes bad and starts leaking on the exhaust and giving you alot of smoke or if the water pump goes bad, then you have to take ALL THAT TIME TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN, when you could have done it all at once because everything is right next to each other. that is several hundred dollars at the mechanic all over again.

The cam gear has 2 bolts going through it,which looks like its bolted to a round plate in back of it.Then thers the block. How do U take off the 1st gear the distributor

Changing chain driven timing to gear driven good idea or no?

I am changing the timing change to a gear driven timing gear. The Maximum Advance/Retard at Camshaft: 8 degree Maximum Advance/Retard at Crankshaft: 16 degree What is this and how will it effect performance and will i need to change anythingelseChanging chain driven timing to gear driven good idea or no?Some high performance applications do this because it is less sloppy, more accurate. They are thought to provide more accurate valve timing, but it has been realized that they make bad harmonics, which can destroy the hardened finish on a flat tappet camshaft, and actially degrade timing accuracy because of the effect of the harmonics on the entire valvetrain (springs, valves, etc...).

BAY AREA, CA.Approximately How Much Will it Cost me for a mechanic to change a timing chain on a1986 Cadillac Sedan DevilleThe chain, gears and gaskets are usually reasonable in price.

Look on line to get them cheaper. Figure about 100 bucks.

And don't just change the chain; change the upper and lower gear as well. Your that far into the engine so why not. The gears wear too.

As for labor, everything on the front of the engine (alternator, p/s pump, vaccuum pump for brakes, ac, compressor, smog pump, and water pump and maybe the radiator have to be removed to gain access to the timing chain.

As for the cost, ask for recommendations from some people you trust. There are good independent shops out there but you have to look for them. And stay away from tire and chain repair shops like pep boys. These places will try to get you to buy the farm. The way the Cam itself is ground can change the lift and duration of the valve openings which can directly affect the horsepower and/or torque curve and rating. The cam gear, crank gear and chain set only control the revolution of the cam in relationship to the crankshaft. No matter who manufacturers a gear and chain set for a particular engine, the gear ratio will be the same. Change that ratio or tweak it a tooth or two and you'll have an engine that's a total mess, if it runs at all.How much horse power will i gain if i change the stock timing chain and gear in a stock ford 460?who ever told u that they are pulling ur leg bro dont do itHow much horse power will i gain if i change the stock timing chain and gear in a stock ford 460?I know what the person talking to you was trying to tell you. Order a timing chain and gears for an early 70's 429 4v motor and install them on the 460. This changes the valve timing slightly and makes a difference in the responsiveness and low end torque and horsepower ( moves your torque and horsepower lower on the rpm curve making it a better drive). I have done this on several 460's, and I highly recommend it but it will not give you an overall power gain just makes it a better power curve and more fun to drive ( slightly better on fuel too but only slightly).

I like to work on my car myself, and recently replaced a timing belt on my 94 camry (with help of course) not too long ago, I have a few parts to this question:

A: How much harder is a timing CHAIN to replace as apposed to a BELT.

    B. How much time should I allot myself before taking on the project.

    C. My mechanic friend offered to fix it for around 300.00, would be it better to just let him fix it and spend the money or get a Hanes manual, the proper tools and gain the experience for future use?

Then both intake and exhaust gaskets.Get a book at your local auto parts store and it will explain it step by step. They can also tell you what it will cost.If the car still runs it doesn't have a broken belt.If it did break while it was running you may have bent a valve or even damaged a piston. How often do you change a Timing Chain on a Toyota Corolla 1998?Unless there is a problem there is no need to change it. I haven't done it myself, all I know is that if you do it wrong your idling will vary drastically and engine will stall. How do i change a timing chain on a '90 honda civic ex?I just put a timing belt on my '94 Civic DX 1.5L last week. There is a small mark on the crank pulley in the 1 or 2:00 position that lines up to an arrow cast in the block...it is hard to see because it is behind the belt on the right side. When that is lined up there are three ways to orientate the marks on the camshaft depending on what engine you have. Once the belt is on turn the engine two revolutions and recheck the marks to make sure they are still lined up. I bought my Haynes manual off of eBay for cheaper than the parts store. How do i change a timing chain on a '90 honda civic ex?Before taking the belt out, align the Crankshaft pulley at TDC (small visible mark would be on the gear and engine block) When you align this point, you will see another mark on the cam pulley. The ratio between cam and crank is 1:2. Every 2 full rotation of the crank, the cam spins once. Which means if you align the crank, the cam can be bottom dead center or top dead center. If it is at BDC, you just need to turn the crank one more time to bring the cam to TDC.

I would draw a line between the Belt, and cam pulley.

Draw another line between the belt and the crank pulley.

Then transfer the markings to the new belt and reinstall in the same position to verify.

It's important that the crankshaft and camshafts are in the right position, otherwise you'll bend valves and damage pistons.

How hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?

I am looking to help a friend change the timing chain in his truck because he cannot afford to take it to a shop to have it fixed.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciatedHow hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?Whoa! 22R are notorious for timing chain failure. They also have the tendency to break the chain guide on the right side of the engine(as ur facing it). However this is a time consuming task even for a experienced mechanic. Removal of the head is not required but if you ask toyota they'll tell you to remove it. If you or your buddy aren't real confident that u can do it, then don't! but if you decide to here are some pointers!!! Remove the valve cover there is a bolt hidden in that oil pocket on the front of the head don't forget to remove it. Also make sure the harmonic balancer doesn/t have a groove around the sealing surface, if it does a repair sleeve should be installed. Another thing once u have the timing cover off inspect very closely the inside of it. These motors are bad at chewing into the cover when the chain guide breaks make sure this hasn't happend to yours because there is a water jacket there. Well hope this helpsHow hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?it is not hard, but is time consuming, which motor, if memory serves me right, you have to take the head off first. my advice is to take to garage, or at least buy a good manual, and be precise in what you do.How hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?IT IS AS HARD TO PENERTRATE A VERGIN PUSSYHow hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?I agree with mekanic if you don't know what your doing at least buy a good manual and follow it as closely as possibleHow hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?its best to find someone who knows what they are doing because if you dint get the timing right and you for example snap the chain or it comes loose you will completely screw up your pistons and that usually means its time to buy a new engine so be careful. These are zero tolerance engines! How hard is it to change a timing chain on a 1993 toyota pickup truck with a four cylinder engine?IT IS VERY EASY FIRST LOCATE THE BIG BLACK ROUND KNOB ON THE MOTOR, THIS IS EASY IT HAS 7 1 0 ON IT. A timing BELT on a %26quot;L%26quot; series diesel is different story, the critical part is lining up the timing marks and resetting the tensioner, but a relativly easy task for someone with mechanical experience.

How to change timing chain on a Chevy S-10?

I am mechanically minded but I am not sure how to change this out. Is there a website with a diagram? Litlle Help would go along way. THANKS!!!How to change timing chain on a Chevy S-10?Sane and tirespoke have given you some pretty good general advice, but I'm guessing you're looking for more detailed advice (you know, like %26quot;disconnect your negative battery cable%26quot; before you start, so you don't fry all your wiring because you short circuit some wires), and something specific to your vehicle, so you won't be wondering what all that stuff is under your cam gear on a '95 or later.(It's for the balance shaft).

Autozone.com has free repair guides that are pretty much the same as a Chilton's. They should have one for your vehicle since it's old enough to need a timing chain. Just go there and register, enter the info into the vehicle profile, click %26quot;repair info%26quot; and %26quot;view repair guides%26quot;. Then the link for Engine %26amp; Engine Overhaul.

From there you'll see links for the Alternator under Engine Electrical , and most of the other stuff under Engine Mechanical. Go there first, then click Timing Chain And Gears, and whenever it says %26quot;remove this%26quot; or remove that%26quot; in the instructions for that, backtrack to the instructions for that part through the links in the box on the left, which is on every page. How to change timing chain on a Chevy S-10?Its a fairly detailed process. A Chiltons manual would be very helpful in giving step by step instruction.

Its not an easy task in that its a bit time consuming. You need to remove the coolant, radiator, hoses, fan, water pump, and anything else that's blocking you from removing the timing chain cover. You'll need a damper puller to get to the lower part. Then you have to remove the crank sprocket to get the old chain off. You'll need to get the crank and cam lined up time wise with the marks on each, then install the new chain making sure the marks are properly aligned. Then reassemble everything. How to change timing chain on a Chevy S-10?Go to you tube, type in the info you want and there will be videos telling you how to do it.How to change timing chain on a Chevy S-10?pull off front dress of engine (water pump, pulleys, harmonic balancer, etc) to get access to the timing cover.

pull off the timing cover and the timing chain will be staring you in the face. put harmonic balancer bolt in and rotate crankshaft using old timing set and distributor cap off. when distributor is pointing to #1 spark plug the dots on the gears should either line up or be very close.

pull off old timing set and put new one on. finish adjusting them so both gear dots are pointing to each other and distributor should be relatively close to #1 position. put timing cover back on with new gaskets. put front dress back on (put a new water pump on while you have it apart).

loosen distributor bolt and crank engine up. might need to rotate the distributor a little. pull the spout connector out or remove the vacuum advance line and set base timing to factory spec. hook the vac advance or spout back up and take it for a drive.
